John Branson is a 1989 graduate of Yale College, cum laude, and a 1992 graduate of Harvard Law School, cum laude. At Yale, John earned distinction in the fields of economics and political science, and received the President’s Award for Outstanding Leadership in Service to the New Haven Community. John is admitted to practice before all state courts in Maine, Massachusetts and the District of Columbia, as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He began his legal career as an antitrust litigator at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Hogan & Hartson. In late 1994, he joined the law firm of Goodwin, Procter in Boston, Massachusetts, where he represented and counseled clients in the areas of commercial litigation, consumer protection, unfair trade practices, and banking and securities litigation. During that period, John also represented the Boston School Committee in connection with a high-profile civil rights lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the admissions process for the Boston Latin School. John returned to his hometown of Portland, Maine in the late 1990’s and, after two years as the owner of a litigation consulting business, joined the firm of Lambert Coffin, where his practice focused on commercial litigation, insurance coverage and defense, workers’ compensation, products liability and appellate advocacy. Mr. Branson became affiliated with Chadbourne Law Offices in May of 2003, and, in September of 2004, formed the partnership of Chadbourne & Branson, P.A. with his friend and former colleague from Goodwin Procter, Dori Chadbourne. In September of 2005, Mr. Branson formed the Law Offices of John H. Branson, P.A., locating his office in Portland’s Old Port and focusing his practice on civil litigation, small business counseling, and family law. Mr. Branson currently serves on the boards of directors of Day One and the Yale Club of Western Maine, and volunteers with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Southern Maine. Mr. Branson’s hobbies include hiking, golf and American history.
